The voices of nightingales have brought their remarkable song to the landscapes of England, Europe and the Middle East at night every spring for thousands of years. Yet in England, the nightingale is now endangered and could disappear from this land within the next fifty years. Their song is one of this landscape’s most beloved seasonal expressions, woven into the ancestral memory of this place; and simultaneously holding requiem, invitation, and celebration for new life at the height of spring. What awakens within when their song envelops us?
During the production of our film The Nightingale’s Song in 2022, Emergence Magazine recorded the song of this endangered bird during a full moon in early May, in the woods of southern England in the darkest hours of night, using special ambisonic microphones.
Join us on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in the Reethaus at Flussbad for an immersive sound experience that brings the music of bird and forest to you. Encounter the abundance and beauty of spring as a unique expression of the Earth in this experience that utilizes the Reethaus’ acoustic environment.
