This October, Emergence Magazine heads to Berlin for a special weekend at Flussbad in celebration of the launch of their latest print edition, Volume 6: Seasons. Reflecting a world where snow no longer arrives, annual migrations fall out of time, and yet first blossoms still burst, this volume moves through three themes: requiem, invitation, and celebration, each a contemplation on the paradoxical ways the seasons now beckon us into intimate relationship with the Earth. The launch will be the first chance for readers to explore the volume and its themes.

FIVE STUDIES ON LIGHT

The two-day experience will feature the world premiere of the interactive film
Five Studies on Light, by Emergence’s creative partner Studio Airport in collaboration with Dutch installation artist Boris Acket. This work explores the phenomenon of light as it unfolds through the seasons—its mysteries, its beauty, and its profound, visceral presence in our lives. Alongside the film, guests will experience a 360° sound installation in the Reethaus’ inner chamber. Composer Julian Tjon Sack Kie will weave an immersive soundscape with an acoustic live performance, enriched by the spoken word of Vittoria Totale. This multimedia installation—where light becomes sound, seasons become stories, and mediums converge—invites you to slow down, listen deeply, and attune yourself to light, the most essential element of the seasons.

Boris Acket

Boris Acket is a contemporary audio-visual artist and composer who works with sound, light, and motion to explore the interplay between control and surrender in the natural world. Initially rooted in electronic music and club culture, Boris’ practice evolved to challenge the boundaries between sound art, music, and performance space. His recent shift towards recontextualizing nature in art spaces was influenced by encounters with acoustic ecologist Gordon Hempton and sociologist Riyan van den Born in 2020. He is one half of the band Working Titles, whose 2019 LP De Tuin is composed of improvisations that are carefully cut and reconfigured into a tapestry of meditative sonic vignettes; and he is also part of Dutch artist collective De Lichting. Boris’ works and performances have been presented at Mutek MX, Milan Salone del Mobil, Paris Fashion Week, Dark Matter Berlin, Lost Art Festival Berlin, Stedelijk Museum, NXT Museum, Lowlands, STRP, Van Gogh Museum, and many festivals and events across Europe.
